Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The Zinemira section at this year’s Festival will be organising a special screening at 17:30 in film theatre 9 at the Principe cinema exclusively for professionals of the very latest shorts in the
Kimuak catalogue. Kimuak is a Basque Government programme managed by the Basque Film Archive that aims to promote and disseminate Basque short films internationally.
The person in charge of the programme, Txema Muñoz, thinks that unlike in previous years, the selection this year is placing the emphasis on, “diversity and more unconventional languages”. In fact, only one of the shorts could be described as being “conventional” as far as its narrative is concerned.
Paradoxically, in the year that the Festival is devoting one of its retrospectives to documentary films, no documentaries were selected for Kimuak, although Muñoz stressed he was pleasantly surprised that three animated films, two others that had been shot in Poland and Georgia and two films in Basque had made the final cut.
