Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Director Lee Daniels and actress Gabourey Sidibe presented Precious yesterday in Zabaltegi. The film won the special jury prize at Sundance and is based on the novel Push by Sapphire. Oprah Winfrey herself called the director after it was screened to offer her support to spread its message.
The main character in the film is an overweight illiterate Afro-American teen who is pregnant with her second child. She is accepted into an alternative school where a teacher helps her find a new path in life. The actress was familiar with her character even before she played her. “Although the material is a bit heavy, it wasn’t difficult to get into the character, because I was already a big fan of the book Push.
The director was overwhelmed by how the film has been received. “I made the film for African- Americans, but it has been a surprise for me to see how it touched white America, and even more so, how it has touched the rest of the world. It’s not just an African- American film; it’s universal.”
