Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Manuel Pérez Estremera (Madrid, 1944) was Director of the San Sebastian Film Festival for two years (1993 and 1994), a member of its Executive Committee in 1995 and 1996, and a collaborator with the Management in 1997.
He began his career with film magazines like Film Ideal and Nuestro Cine, participated in the founding group of the Cuadernos para el diálogo review, collaborated in theatre magazines such as Primer Acto and worked on the collection of theatre books for Cuadernos para el diálogo.
He has been tied since the sixties to TVE (Spanish Television), where he participated in numerous series and programmes. He was the Director of Fila 7, a weekly movie programme, and Assistant Director of Foreign Production (responsible for studying screenplays and projects for Spanish cinema, co-productions with Latin America and productions with Spanish and European companies for television), a position he held from 1987 until 1992.
He has also occupied a variety of executive positions with the Sogecable group. For Canal Plus España he directed the programme Magacine and until April 2004 its Own Production Programmes department, where he was in charge of purchasing the broadcasting rights for Spanish cinema.
Pérez Estremera was responsible for the Production Professorship at the San Antonio de los Baños International Film and Television School in Cuba from 1998 until 2000.
He has written four books related to his field: Correspondencia inacabada con Arturo Ripstein, Nuevo Cine Alemán, Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano and Problemas del Nuevo Cine, the last three of which were published in the sixties.
More recently, he was Director of Cinematography with the Spanish Ministry of Culture (ICAA) from May until December 2004. His last position was as Director of TVE from January 2005 until January 2007.
He is an Honorary Member of the Argentinean Film Academy and was presented with the Honorary Coral Award at the 28th Havana Film Festival and with the City of Huelva Prize in 2007. He also received Recognition from the FIPCA (Federación Iberoamericana de Productores Cinematográficos y Audiovisuales) for “his decisive contribution to the development and consolidation of Ibero-American cinema” and tributes at the Lima Festival in 2007 and Cinema Llatinoamericà in Lleida, 2008.
He has sat on the jury at festivals including Havana, Guadalajara, Gramado, Lleida, Toulouse and Tarifa.
