The International Film School Meetings were officially opened yesterday by Mikel Olaciregui and Joxean Muñoz of Tabakalera. The former declared that he was certain that they would be the filmmakers of the future.
This year the event is opening its doors to schools from all over the world, with students from 14 schools in 9 different countries. Over two days they will be screening the 15 films selected for the competition that will be assessed by a jury consisting of students from the schools taking part chaired by the Israeli director Amos Gitai. The winning film will receive the aiTe prize worth 6,000 Euros in post-production services, and will be screened at Cannes next year in the Short Film Corner section.
The focus of the workshop organised by aiTe (Association of Spanish audiovisual technical industries) yesterday was on new technologies. Among other speakers, the Irish artist Catherine Owens, who has been responsible for the audiovisual installations that have accompanied U2 on their last four world tours and has just brought out her first film as a director U2 3D, said she would definitely encourage students to learn 3D techniques as they’ll have plenty of work in the future because there’ll be a need for 3D products.
