“The title of the film refers to what the world of the upperclasses in Lima suggests to me: they can do and undo things as they please; everything is allowed; they can do anything, play with the lives and hearts of others, just like on Olympus.” This is how Josué Mendez, the director of Dioses explains his vision of the wealthy classes in the Peruvian capital in what is his second film.
An essential element in Dioses is the contrast between high society and the world of the Indians; for example, the servants speak Quechua. “They are two worlds that coexist but live with their backs turned on one another; Indians also worked in my home, and I don’t know a single word of their language".
He shows a world that is exclusive and innaccessible: “this is the world of 0.01 % of the population", Mendez points out.
