Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
This is the second time that Belgian director and scriptwriter Fien Troch has competed in the new Directors Section after the screening of Someone Else’s Happiness here in 2005. Troch is now back with Unspoken, a drama about a couple whose 14-year-old daughter disappeared five years back.
She doesn’t think that her two films are connected, even though they are both about tragic situations involving young children. She hadn’t originally intended to write about a missing child, but in the end it emerged quite naturally as she started out with a story about a couple and then looked for something that could create tension in their relationship, which is how she came up with the disappearance of the child. However, in this case the child is a teenager while in her first film the child was actually murdered and was much younger and more innocent.
She usually writes in Flemish but she so wanted to work with Emmanuelle Devos and Bruno Todeschini that she translated the screenplay into French. It was a dream working with them: Emmanuelle liked the script straight away and had seen her previous film.
