Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
“This film had a very special motivation for me: I wanted to tell people that there is a huge amount of talent in the neighbourhoods on the edges of big cities and that there are a lot of people with a great deal of talent who unfortunately don’t have the chance to shout like I have. Because this film is like shouting out, “Here we are, we know how to do things and we want to get things done,” Santiago Zannou, the director of El Truco del Manco says.
The main character of the story is Quique, “El Cuajo” a non-Gypsy with Gypsy features who is severely physically disabled although this doesn’t stop him from being as quick-witted as he is sharp-tongued, which is precisely his strong point. He fends for himself in the neighbourhood as best he can and has an iron will. His friend, the mulatto, Adolfo, also has a lot of problems, but in his case they are not physical: he’s a drug addict, he’s been in jail and he lives with his alcoholic father. Together they set up a recording studio.
