Pablo’ father is a signalman who says he sees ghosts and his mother is a strong, illiterate woman called María. When his father dies in strange circumstances María sends her son to study in the city so that he can become an educated man. Pablo feels abandoned and grows angry. Now Pablo is a drunken literature teacher currently unemployed and he has just received news of his mother’s death. He hasn’t seen her for 35 years. On his return home the fear reappear.
