Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Although Peter Marai was born in Budapest, he spent his entire childhood in Buenos Aires. His first works in the field of image took him to the world of advertising, through which he entered film production. He moved to Mexico in the 70s and, a decade later, to Los Angeles, working for Televicine, where he distributed South American and Spanish films, such as Adolfo Aristarain’s Tiempo de revancha (Time for Revenge) and Bigas Luna’s Bilbao.
In 1984, he created the company Cóndor Video, which went on to become the first video label exclusively dedicated to the Spanish-speaking market in the USA. It distributes titles by Adolfo Aristarain, Carlos Saura and Mexican cinema classics. Shortly afterwards, he extended this offer to the Connoisseur label, with which he distributes movies by big-name directors like Truffaut, Buñuel, Fellini and Kurosawa. Thanks to their fine DVD editions, we can access titles as widely ranging as the Mexican classic by Alberto Gout, Aventurera, Fina Torres’ Oriana, or Eliseo Subiela’s El lado oscuro del corazón.
Peter Marai lives in Los Angeles where he plays an important part in circulating and spreading knowledge of Latin American and Spanish cinema on the American market.
