Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Born in 1943 in Chile, where he studied music at university. A scholarship from the French government gave him the opportunity to increase his knowledge of the subject in Paris under the direction of Max Deutsch from 1967 to 1971. His interest in electronic music techniques led him to carry out research into computer aided music at Standford University. Settled in Paris, he founded an experimental music studio at the American Centre. He spent several years teaching music, making something of a name for himself at different contemporary music festivals and won several prizes, such as the Guggenheim Foundation award in 1972. In 1986, he adopted French nationality. His interest for film music awakened in 1977, on meeting Raúl Ruiz. Although they collaborated on La vocation suspendue and Coloque de chiens, it was with L'Hypothèse d'un tableau volé, that they actually put the seal on a friendship and professional relationship still going today. In 1992 he won the Award for the Best Soundtrack at the Sitges International Film Festival for his composition in the film L'oeil qui ment, also by Ruiz. Since starting to compose for cinema, Arriagada has made approximately fifty sountracks, the two most recent of which, Barbet Schroeder's La vírgen de los sicarios and Raúl Ruiz' Fils de deux mères ou Comédie de l'innocence were present at the Venice Festival.
