Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Born in Caserta (Italy) in 1957. She has been living in Spain since the age of ten. A graduate in journalism from Madrid's Complutense University, she was editor-in-chief of the magazine Papeles de Cine Casablanca and co-ordinated the cultural section of the Mujeres review. She has translated a number of cinematographic texts and a collection of tales by Gérard de Nerval, in addition to having published two novels. She has also participated on the production of commercials and works free-lance in the promotion of films, likewise collaborating with different festivals.
Since 1986, she has been working with the Spanish Film Archive where, as well as other tasks, she is in charge of publishing projects, including Nicholas Ray y su tiempo, John Ford, Directores de fotografía del cine español, Los proverbios chinos de F.W. Murnau, the "Cuadernos de la Filmoteca" collection, the two series published with Cátedra (one on Latin American filmmakers and another including titles such as Catálogo general del cine de la Guerra Civil, Antología crítica del cine español, Directores artísticos del cine español or Guionistas en el cine español) and joint publications with the San Sebastián Film Festival (monographs dedicated to Tourneur, Dieterle, LaCava, Browning Naruse, Stahl and Carol Reed).
Valeria Ciompi is a member of the IFFPA Executive Committee, of the Commission for the Commemoration of the Centenary of Luis Buñuel, and previously of the Commission for the Centenary of Cinema, having participated in the organisation of exhibitions and seminars.
