As if to underline his rejection of Tatyana, Onegin flirts openly with Olga and is challenged to a duel by Lensky. Onegin's shot is fatal and Lensky dies. Grief-stricken, Onegin leaves and goes into self-imposed exile. Six years later, he returns to St. petersburg, where he again meets Tatyana, now married to Prince Nikitin.
