Maurice Hall, a young stoc-broker, lives with his widowed mother and two bothers in a refined Edwardian atmospehere. Maurice is disturbed by the ambiguity of his sexual impulses. At Trinit College he met Clive, a young man who comprehend his sexuality in terms of classical Greek ideals. When Clive tells Maurice that he loves him, Maurice is frightened, but realizes that he also loves Clive.
