The summer of 1900 in the city of San Steffano in Northern Italy. Francis Ingram, a concert pianist, lives confined to a wheelchair in the Villa Francesco, a mansion for the 16th Century. While re-writing his will, he asks his partners to visit him and testify that he is of sound mind.
Unfortunately, Francis dies the same night after falling down the stair in his chair. The reading of the will reveals that his private nurse, Julie Holden, is the only beneficiary.
Francis' nephew and brother-in-law begin to conspire with the layer to obtain the inheritance. A climate of terror fills the house.
