Michael Lamb, a Christian Friar, teaches teenagers ina reformatory on the Irish coast. He is in charge of one young man in particular, Owen Kane. The repressive regimen instituted by the superior, Friar Benedict, provokes reclusive tendencies in owen, who is an epileptic, but is forced to participate with the other boys in all the activities of the reformatoryy. Michael dispproves of the goals and means of the institution and decides to escape with Owen.
