Matiora is a town destined to be evacuated in order to make place for the completition of a dam. This will mean that the hometown of the Nikitin, a family that has been living in Matiora for several generations, will be left under water. In between the main characters we have three members of the Nikitin family, three different points of view concerning the future of Matiora. Is it necesary to destroy the old in order to make place for the new or is it better to keep the old and obtain something from that that is new? And the biggest question that is in the minds of all: Won't it be too high prize to pay for the new to come?
