A young stage manager from Mowcow arrives in a provincial town to stage Tchekhov's Seagull in the local theatre. He is a talented and ambitious person possesses by theatrical art. Therefore he cannot reconcile himself with the dullness, mediocrity and vegetating life on the stage. At first the relations of the young manager with the company and its leading actress Arsenyeva are far from being cloudless. However, his talent and sincere devotion to the theatre gradually bring the manager and actors together to achieve their common long awaited and joyous sucess.
