El mil usos

Roberto G. Rivera
Mexico
Synopsis

The bells ring sadly in a small Mexican village, while the humble peasants attend the funeral of the head of a family. When the widow reports that the little left by the deceased will be divided among all the debtors, most protest.

One of the sons decides to go in search of work to Mexico City. Once he has stowed away to the city, where he offers to work multiple trades. From there he will come the nickname with which they call him. In the end, "Milusos (A thousand uses)" understands a peasant who with great sincerity and conviction convinces him that the only thing he must do is leave the big city, and return to his homeland to fight there with his people.

"Milusos" takes the road to his town, and as he walks away, he stops from a hill to contemplate for the last time the landscape of the great Mexico City. Faced with this image, he sourly makes the sign of violently joining his fist with his shoulder, which means that the whole world knows.
