Pedro Liniers, a Bachelor of Arts, leaves Barcelona to return to Madrid, when his wife, Elena, decides to abandon him after ten years of married life. In his new life as a teacher in a girls school, he meets Aurora, as well as Maite and Berta. He comes across old friends from his university time and has a brief encounter with Elena. It seems nobody is able to interest him enough.
