For more than six years, Simon the Stylite has done penance by standing on a pillar. A very rich devotee gives him a better column, and Simon performs the miracle of returning the hands of a mutilated man. For several days, while Simon continues to do penance, the devil appears to him and tries to make him fall into temptation.
