Based on a story by Heinrich Böll, Nobel prize 1972, the film denounces certain police tactics and the manipulation of public opinion by a determined press.
Katherine Blum spends the night of the festival with a youth. The next morning she is arrested by the police who are searching for an armed deserter. The police chief subjects her to a lengthy interrogation. A sensationalist reporter learns of the case and seriously damages the reputation of the protagonist.
Placed on provisional liberty she ecounters the hate of neighbors and false friends. Her mother dies form the indiscretion of a reporter. Finally Katherine reacts Violently...
