The killer asks him to deliver $100,000 to his long-lost daughter, but before he can do it the mob kills the killer and steals the key to his safe deposit box. The doctor is accused of the murder and, to prove his innocence, he helps catch the villains and saves Connie, who has been kidnapped by the mob.

He goes home to Wyoming and has trouble with Verne Coolan, a prejudiced lawyer who threatens to take away the Indians' traditional lands under a new homesteading law. Poole attempts to assuage matters between his tribe and the settlers by appealing to the authorities for help, but it is useless. The tribe is trounced in the courts and on the battlefield.

In the Korean War, Lt. Benson is a tough, grizzled officer who is trying to save his weary platoon, and Montana is a sergeant who has to get his shell-shocked colonel back to a field hospital where he can be treated. They discover that almost all the men have died and that the Koreans have taken the hill where Benson left the platoon. Montana and Benson take the hill again and pay homage to their dead companions.

Following one particular battle, Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar (El Cid) liberates some Moorish emirs on their vow never again to attack Castile. The empire begins to erode and there is mounting revolt against Commodus's tyrannical ways.

In Nazi-occupied Norway, underground leader Knut Straud smuggles a microfilm message from an agent in a Nazi factory hidden in a Norwegian valley to university professor Rolf Pedersen. The Nazis are producing "heavy water", essential in the manufacture of atomic bombs. Straud and Pedersen bring the message to the Allies in England, who decide to destroy the factory. Straud and Pedersen are parachuted with some men back into Norway to lay the groundwork for an attack on the factory by British commandos.

Russian secret agent Alexander Eberlin has infiltrated British Intelligence, and is ordered to kill a Russian double agent responsible for the deaths of three British spies. After warning Pavel, Eberlin realizes that he must eliminate him in order to preserve his own cover, but he has already been murdered by the Russians. After participating in a mission in Berlin, he discovers that his true identity has been known from the start and that he has been used to uncover the Russian network in that city.
