June 1967 saw the first ever "pop" festival. It took place in Monterey, California, and had been organized by The Mamas and The Papas. A large segment of the protest music participated: Scott McKenzie, The Mamas and The Papas, Caned Heat, Simon and Garfunkel, Hugh Masekela, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Eric Burdon and The Animals, The Who, Country Joe and The Fish, Jimmy Hendrix, Ravi Shankar and Otis Redding. When the last question was asked, "Isn't it true tat we all love each other?", more than 50.000 people responded "Yes!". It was without doubt the beginning of an era. Today, some of the performers at that important concert are dead. The rest have gone solo or joined new bands. As such, Monterey Pop is an historical document as well as an uplifting experience.
