Here work on sustainability continues all year round, but it is while the event is up and running that many of the decisions made during that time come into their own. With thousands of people moving around the city during the Festival, mobility is one of the areas in which this work takes on special relevance.

In this issue we look at the transport options available for coming to San Sebastián and getting to the different Festival venues.

Arriving in San Sebastián

For those arriving from other parts of Spain or from foreign countries, there are a variety of public transport options. The Bilbao, San Sebastián and Biarritz airports offer several alternatives for continuing into the city.

From Bilbao airport, Lurraldebus runs direct bus services to San Sebastián. A number of other connections are also available from the San Sebastián and Biarritz airports.

Moving around the Festival

Once in the city, the DBusservice runs to and between many of the Festival venues. For its part, the interurban Lurraldebus service connects San Sebastián with other parts of Gipuzkoa and is particularly useful for those staying outside the city.

How to get to the different venues

The Dbus lines running to the Festival venues located in different parts of the city are:

• Tabakalera: 9, 17, 24, 26, 31, 37, 41

• Antiguo Berri: 5, 16, 18, 24, 25, 33, 45, 46

The lines and their times may vary during the Festival, and we therefore recommend that users consult updated information before setting out.

Late-night bus service

Some Festival sessions and activities continue until late at night. For these journeys, it is also advisable to check the public transport options available at night and plan your return journey in advance. During the Zinemaldia, Dbus will operate special schedules and services between September 18 and 26, including night services and Búho (night owl) routes.

MUGI, the public transport pass

The MUGI pass can be used on a variety of public transport services throughout Gipuzkoa. This is an excellent option for those wishing to make repeated use of public transport during their stay.

There are different types of pass, tailored to different needs.

Travelling by bike or on foot

Bikes are another great way of getting around San Sebastián. Dbizi, the public bike service, has docks throughout the city, enabling users to make short journeys between the different districts.

This said, many of the Festival venues are close enough that they can be reached on foot. A particularly easy way to get around the activities and screenings programmed in the city.

The Festival too through its stories

Mobility is one of the areas where work on sustainability gains visibility during the edition. But this work is also to be found in the contents and initiatives developed by the Festival over the year.

This year we will give the first Tanta Award, in collaboration with the European Climate Foundation, going to an audiovisual project tackling the subject of climate change. In addition, yet another year, Greenpeace will give the Lurra Award to the film in the official programme which best reflects the values of peace and environmental protection.

Two initiatives, one goal: the incorporation of sustainability to the Festival not only from different areas, but also through the cinema and the stories it supports.
