The Public Limited Company FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE CINE DE DONOSTIA-SAN SEBASTIÁN S.A. consists in equal parts of the San Sebastian City Council, the Basque Government, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and the Spanish Ministry of Culture, Education and Sport. Its chairmanship is held by the Mayor of San Sebastian. The San Sebastian International Film Festival organisation is headed by its Director, José Luis Rebordinos.
The San Sebastian International Film Festival is accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations, FIAPF www.fiapf.org, in the "competitive film festivals" category.
The San Sebastian Festival intends to make a positive contribution to the development of culture and the film industry.
The 73rd edition of the San Sebastian Festival will take place in the city of Donostia-San Sebastian, from September 19 to 27, 2025.
All films presented at the 73rd edition of the San Sebastian Festival will be chosen by its Selection Committee, headed by the Festival management and advised by a network of international delegates, made up of a series of professionals, specialists in the world of cinema and film festivals.
Since its creation in 2018, the Klasikoak section rescues old and modern classics from the history of universal cinema. In this section, which hosts the Tabakalera movie theaters, restored versions are screened to the delight of audiences who love classic cinema of all times.
The admission of feature films registered for pre-selection will begin on January 17th and end on June 17th. The pre-selection process will be carried out online through the Festival's website, and will be free of charge.
The Klasikoak section will be open to feature films that meet the following conditions:
All films selected by the Festival will be presented in their restored version in their original language.
The subtitles of the films may be in Spanish or English.
The subtitling of the copy will be the responsibility of the producers or representatives of the film.
The Festival will provide, at its own expense, an additional electronic subtitling in English or Spanish for those films whose original version is neither English nor Spanish. For this purpose, a link to the definitive original version of the film with English or Spanish subtitles and the corresponding list of subtitles will be requested.
The creation and projection of this electronic subtitling will be carried out by the subtitling company at the service of the Festival.
Once the film has been officially invited by the Festival Director, the representatives of the selected films must confirm the registration form, sent in advance and duly completed, no later than August 1, 2025.
The Festival will recognize the signatory of this confirmation as the sole interlocutor to negotiate all aspects related to the participation of the film in the event and as the sole responsible before other companies or persons who may have participated in the production of the film.
The confirmation by the representatives of the selected film means that they will not be able to withdraw it from the program and the irrevocable acceptance of all the rules required by the Festival management.
The invitation of each film selected by the San Sebastian Festival will be strictly confidential between the Festival management and the representatives of the invited film, until the Festival decides to officially announce it.
The overall program of the San Sebastian Festival and the screening schedules are the exclusive responsibility of the Festival's management committee.
The necessary documentation materials for press releases, catalog and official Festival website (synopsis, technical-artistic sheet, bio-filmographies and photos of the directors and photos of the film), will be extracted from the online registration form, which must be duly completed no later than August 1, 2025.
All promotional material concerning the selected films that may be required by the various departments of the Festival must be sent promptly by the representatives of the film.
The representatives of the invited films shall send the selected prints to be screened at the Festival, 15 days prior to the start of the Festival, to the Festival's film department. The costs of preparing the DKDM shall also be borne by the producer or representative of the film.
The Festival Management reserves the right not to accept copies that, after control by the Festival's technical department, prove to be unsuitable for screening. The Festival Management will send the technical report to the film owners or representatives if irregularities are found in the DCP.
Should the film representatives prefer to send a physical DCP, the cost of transporting the copies of the selected films, as well as the insurance of said copies, shall be borne by the participant until their arrival at the Festival's headquarters, or to its customs agent.
The San Sebastian Festival will be responsible for the insurance of the copies from the moment they arrive at its headquarters or to its customs agent, until the moment of their return.
The return of the copies of the films selected by the Festival will also be at the participant's expense and will not be made before the closing date of the Festival.
In case of deterioration of a copy during the days of the Festival, the responsibility of the participant shall not exceed the cost of printing a new copy, according to the current rates of the laboratories for the printing of the standard copy.
The accredited industry professionals will be attended by the Festival's Industry area, coordinated by a professional team that will make available to these accredited professionals all possible means to facilitate their work, including the viewing of the films in its video library, with the prior written authorization of their producers.
In case of unforeseen conflict (organizational or operational) or if these rules are not properly followed, the Festival management retains its sovereignty and reserves the power of final decision, in accordance with the rules of the FIAPF, with regard to international film events.
Should there be any divergence in the interpretation of these rules, the Spanish text will be applied.
Any doubts that may arise from the interpretation of these rules will be resolved by the management of the San Sebastian Festival.
Participation in the Klasikoak Section of the Festival implies acceptance of these rules.
