In the talk New media: film and festivals in the age of social networks Diego Batlle, Director of Otroscines.com, Pepa Blanes, Head of Culture at Cadena Ser, Wendy Ide, Chief Critic at The Observer and Guy Lodge, critic at Variety, will discuss from their personal experience how they use social networks to report on film and festivals and the need or not to have a presence on them to create and maintain their prescriptive function.
Guy Lodge is a South African-born film critic and writer based in London. He is the UK critic for international trade bible Variety, a home entertainment columnist for The Observer newspaper, and a regular contributor to The Guardian, Sight & Sound and the BBC Arts Hour, among other outlets.
Pepa Blanes is head of Culture at Cadena SER. With a degree in Journalism from the UCM and a Master's degree in Sociocultural and Gender Analysis, she directs the film and series programme El Cine en la SER. She is the author of Abre los ojos, películas y series para entender el mundo.
Diego Batlle is a journalist and film critic. Director of OtrosCines.com, a website created in 2007. Contributor to elDiarioAr. Creator and co-host of the podcasts Festivales and Acerca de Nada. He has worked for the newspapers La Nación and Clarín, among other media.
Wendy Ide is the Chief Film Critic of The Observer, she also covers film festivals for the trade publication Screen International. Previously, wrote regularly for the Financial Times and she served as a film critic for The Times and The Sunday Herald. She programmed the short film strand for the London Film Festival for four years, was a program advisor for Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and has served on the juries of numerous film festivals around the world.
