Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Joseba Lopezortega (Bilbao) graduated as a historian from the University of the Basque Country; he is also an expert in ideation and in the cultural and creative industries. He is a critic of the opera and classical music and regular collaborator of the El Correo cultural pull-out entitled ‘Territories’. He is a Member of the Basque Council on Culture.
He began his audiovisual activity in the early 80s at the FAS Film Club in Bilbao and at ZINEBI, as a member of its selection committee, until becoming its director in 1988, the period during which his interest in animated cinema and CGI took hold. He directed the MIMAD infographics show at the Fine Arts Circle in Madrid and was curator of the “Spanish Visionaries” Moving Image Biennial at the Queen Sofia National Museum, as well as of numerous Spanish Society of Authors (SGAE) congresses and activities.
As a specialist in communication, he has worked for bodies including the ABAO Bilbao Opera, BBK and the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. In 2024 he entered his second mandate as director of the Bilbao International Film Festival, ZINEBI, specialised in short documentary, animated and fiction films, classified in its top category by the FIAPF.
