Late December 1994. The entire Alcántara family, except for Carlos, who still lives with Karina in New York, meet as per tradition for New Year's Eve to see out the year together. Before the celebration, like every year, Mercedes has a check-up for her earlier breast cancer, which makes her reconsider all sorts of things. After talking it over with Antonio, the two come to an important financial decision that will unexpectedly turn the family "upside-down".
