One of the most renowned filmmakers in European cinema, Christian Petzold has a dual role in San Sebastián this year: he’s a member of the Official Section Jury and he’s presenting his latest film Roter Himmel. It is the second film in a trilogy about the elements and asked about why he tends to group his films into trilogies, he thinks that there is an excessive tendency to make single films when the fact is that films end up establishing a dialogue with each other. He likes to serialise what he does and to link his films. He also reveals that he was going to continue the trilogy with a film about air and he found a really inspiring novel to develop the script but he couldn’t get the rights so he began to make another film about the family.
