Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The American actress Jessica Chastain and the Mexican filmmaker Michel Franco have both visited the Festival separately on several occasions in the past but this year they are here together to present their film Memory in the Perlak section. It won its male star, Peter Sarsgard, the best actor award at Venice, and is the first of the two films that they have shot consecutively. Franco said, “this is a film about broken people who just don’t fit into society. These kinds of profiles interest me much more than those people who pretend to be perfect. What is most difficult about portraying these kinds of people and the environments that they move in is managing to get to the truth in them.” Right from the very start he felt a real sense of peace of mind when he saw how Jessica Chastain worked, and how she interacted with the other actors, especially with the non-professionals. Chastain returned the compliment by admitting that the way that Franco works reminded her of her experience that she had with Terrence Malick.
