Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
A total of 20 features will make up Made in Spain, the San Sebastian Festival’s non-competitive section showcasing a selection of the very best in Spanish cinema that can be seen this year. While fourteen of these will be films previously screened at other international festivals or recently released, six of them will be world premieres. This is the case with the film opening the section, No me llame Ternera, the interview by Jordi Évole with one of the key figures in the ETA terrorist group, Josu Urrutikoetxea; and the closing film, La vida de Brianeitor, a documentary by Álvaro Longoria about a young man born with degenerative muscular atrophy who has become a phenomenon on social media. The other films that can be seen for the first time in the section this year address a wide variety of subjects and genders.
Hormigas perplejas, a documentary by Mercedes Moncada Rodríguez -the director of Mi querida España-, portrays the effects of the decline of the second industrial revolution. Semilla del son, by JuanMa Betancort, follows Santiago Auserón, the ex-leader of Radio Futura, on a musical road movie from Madrid to New Orleans via Santiago de Cuba. Aura Garrido and Iria del Río play two sisters who reconnect in Amanece, the feature debut by Juan Francisco Viruega, a teacher at the Tai film school who took part in Nest at the Festival in 2010 with his first short.
In Mientras seas tú, the actress Carme Elías, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, faces up to the disease with courage and lucidity filmed by her friend and director Claudia Pinto. An unusual feature of the film is that its final version will contain images shot at its presentation at the San Sebastian Festival.
Apart from these six premieres, Made in Spain will also be showing Creatura; Bajo terapia; Asedio; Las chicas están bien; Els encantats; El fantástico caso del Golem; Hay una puerta ahí; Matria; La memoria del cine: una película sobre Fernando Méndez Leite; Sica; Upon Entry (La llegada); Unzue. L’últim equip del Juancar; Notas sobre un verano and La Singla.
