Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
When Cristian Mungiu won the Golden Palm at Cannes in 2007 with 4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days he became the spearhead of the movement known as New Rumanian Cinema. Since then, he has made some of the most important films in recent European cinema, and his latest film R.P.M. is being screened in the Perlak section this year. He explains that his films don’t talk about contemporary Rumania, as the conflicts and moral degradation that he depicts could happen anywhere. For example, in R.M.N. he tells the story of the typical clash between the group and the individual, which is what happens when we allow ourselves to be dragged along by the currents of majority opinion and end up watering down our principles and values. Democracy must be based on being able to defend our convictions without looking down on people who don’t think like you do. But to achieve this you need an education. And he goes on to say that although we are rational beings, in critical situations our worst instincts and our most irrational side tend to emerge.
