The Argentine director Eduardo Crespo’s latest film We Will Never Die emerged from an idea that had been on his mind about the grieving process for his father and his home town. The important thing for him was to portray: “how a small provincial town goes through grief and mourning. I really wanted to go a bit deeper into the idea of what the death of a youngster in a small town means, of how a child experiences grief and of how he discovers the grieving process that adults go through when he takes this journey with his mother,” - a journey that Rodrigo and his mother go on after the death of his elder brother.
The film is a tribute to the small town where he grew up. “I’ve lived in Buenos Aires for a long time. This is like a farewell to my home town and my loved ones.” He also said: “I was interested in mixing tragedy with some small- town elements, and a bit of humour, which is a tool that has helped me get over grief in many different circumstances. I think a bit of everyday humour crops up in this film.”
