Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Produced by the great awardwinning director, Hirokazu Koreeda, who has competed on numerous occasions for the Golden Shell and received a Donostia Award in 2018, Any Crybabies Around? is the debut film by Takuma Sato, about a young father caught drunk and naked on television during a traditional celebration.
The young director acknowledged that, if it hadn’t been for Koreeda’s patronage, it would have been very difficult for his film to have been as widely shown and well-received as it has. “I started writing the script five years ago and at the time I had only shot a few amateur films. At first I thought that I was going to complete this project in similar conditions, but thanks to the support from Mr. Koreeda I got a bigger budget, and above all, we have made quite a big international impact.” Asked about what had led him to support a new director like Sato, Koreeda said, “when I read the script I knew that there was a great story there, a story with a universal scope that could also be shared by audiences anywhere in the world, and this is what got me involved in the project, although my participation was actually very small, despite the fact that I appear as executive producer.”
