Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The concept of distance and the need to return to cinemas are the basic themes of tomorrow’s gala that will be opening the 68th San Sebastian Festival at the Kursaal. The dancer and choreographer Jon Maya will act as MC, while the author Harkaitz Cano has written the script. It won’t have a single presenter but will be hosted by several actors and personalities who will introduce the sections and contents.
Cano stressed that, “in a pandemic where certainties fall apart, the word distance has taken on a meaning that was difficult to imagine just a few months ago. That’s why we would like the opening gala to be based around the concept of distance”.
The gala, which will be broadcast live on Spanish Television, ETB1, eitb.eus and the Festival website, will include the presentation of the members of the Official Selection jury, chaired this year by the Italian filmmaker, Luca Guadagnino. Rebordinos, will also be inviting his Cannes counterpart, Thierry Frémaux, up onto the stage to give a speech.
