Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
At the press conference she gave yesterday shortly before receiving the third of this year’s Donostia awards, Penelope Cruz, who is also the image on the Festival poster this year, said that she began working in cinema with an almost military attitude; something she credits to the long years of classical ballet training she had already gone through as a child and the values that her family instilled in her. She said that acting had enabled her to study human behavior. “You never stop learning just how complex human beings are.” And she also confessed that, “I wouldn’t be interested in playing a character that was like myself, because the more similar a character is, the more difficult it is to create something interesting.”
Asked about the directors she had worked for, she had especially fond memories of Pedro Almodóvar, Bigas Luna and Fernando Trueba, and as for her career in Hollywood, she said that she now spent more time in Spain than in the US as her priorities had changed after she became a mother.
