Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Martín Rejtman, the chairman of the Nest Film Students jury, gave a master class yesterday in which he provided an overview of his film career, an activity that he has combined with literature and teaching cinema. A major representative of the “new Argentine cinema” that emerged in the 1990s, he feels that, “the critics use these categories to try and describe things, but when you’re working on the inside it’s difficult to explain.” He added that, “I started out from scratch; there were no models that inspired me, I had to invent a language and find my own path”. When the audience asked him about the “brutally honest” sense of humour in his short Shakti, which is competing in Zabaltegi-Tabakalera, he claimed that he didn’t think about it too much. “I just write situations like that, and if something makes me laugh I leave it in the film.”
