Denis Côte’s master class at the Nest was eagerly awaited as he is a director who has always been impossible to pigeonhole in any one genre, format or style. As for his prolific work rate, he explained that he had no family, was single and had no children. “My only passion is cinema. For thirteen years I’ve had a chronic illness; nothing really serious, but I think that this prevents me from looking towards the future. That’s why I work quickly and shoot a lot”. Côte also claimed that, “it is important to hate something to be creative. Peace and quiet and wellbeing are at odds with creativity.
