In his debut film Workforce which is competing in the Official Selection, the Mexican director and scriptwriter David Zonana shows how a construction worker takes justice into his own hands after his brother dies on the building site where they are working by taking over the house they have built. However, although it seems that they have finally achieved what they have always dreamed of, the atmosphere in the house quickly degenerates and the corruption and inequality of Mexican society in general re-emerge as the workers merely perpetuate the vices of the upper classes as these have permeated every individual at the very deepest level, regardless of where they are from. The director stressed how the house represented a microcosm of Mexican society, and that it had been really important to use nonprofessional actors as this gave his film a really authentic feel.
