The white snake and the green snake of Mount Emei descend to the world of mortals as mistress and maid after practicing Taoist magical arts. At the West Lake, the white snake meets Xuxian, a mortal being. Their fates become intertwined and they marry. Unfortunately, at a party the white snake unexpectedly drinks wine and reveals her true form. Xuxian dies of shock on realising that his wife is not human.
