Created in 2002 thanks to the joint collaboration of the San Sebastian Festival and the Cinélatino, Rencontres de Toulouse, Films in Progress was a pioneer industry activity which has since inspired similar formats at numerous international markets and festivals. It was born with the purpose of supporting the production of Latin American films thanks to financial backing for the completion of films at the post-production stage.

This professional initiative takes place twice yearly: Toulouse in March and San Sebastian in September. The films, selected by the selection committees of both festivals, are presented to an international group of industry professionals capable of contributing to their completion.

Since its first edition, Films in Progress has enabled the completion of the first works by reputed Latin American filmmakers, such as Ana Katz, Celina Murga, Tristán Bauer, Federico Veiroj, Julio Hernández Cordón, Rigoberto Perezcano, Ciro Guerra, Alejandro Fernández Almendras, Sebastián Lelio, Jayro Bustamante and Pepa San Martín, among many others.
