The Spanish director and scriptwriter, Daniel Sánchez Arévalo, after the screening of his film Seventeen in the Official Selection out of competition, confessed that, “as a filmmaker, I aim to improve in the art of combining comedy and drama. I’m selfish because I create things to enjoy and to make myself feel comfortable,” he pointed out. “What I most like as a member of the audience is what I try to do as a director,” he said and referred to films like Nebraska and Sideways by Alexander Payne, last year’s Official Jury chairman, as an example to follow. “I’d have loved to have been here at the same time as him. He makes films that are really true-to-life and that play with genres.”
