Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
In San Sebastián, the past, present and future of cinema go hand in hand. Alongside the retrospectives devoted to classic filmmakers and a wide-ranging overview of current cinema, the Festival also continues to be strongly committed to fostering the next generation of filmmakers through the Nest Film Students initiative, which is now in its 17th year. Fourteen film school students from all over the world will be presenting their own shorts as well as attending master classes by directors like Alexander Payne, the president of the Official Jury, and Virgil Vernier. The latter will be presiding over a jury made up of students from the schools taking part, who will choose the winning short for the Panavision award. On the other hand, a jury made up of students from Basque films schools will also be presenting the Orona award for the most innovative short.
