Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The British film and theatre director William Oldroyd’s first feature film Lady Macbeth had its European premiere at last year’s Festival, and he says it feels it’s like a dream to be invited back here and have the opportunity to form part of the Official Jury. Although he doesn’t believe that art should be competitive: “how can you judge best film or best actor it’s subjective,” he’s enjoying sitting in with his fellow jury members where he’s learning a lot: “it’s like a film masterclass.” When judging films he tends to look for something bold and original with a good story even if it isn’t to his taste, and what he loves about festivals is that you can often get to see films that don’t make it into the mainstream. As for what he finds different about San Sebastián compared to other festivals, he thinks here you can really engage with a warm receptive audience, and that unlike at other events where people can’t get to see the films because they are so industry-orientated, San Sebastián really is a festival for the people.
