Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Beyond Words is being screened in the Official Section and tells the story of a young Polish lawyer living and working in Berlin. He goes to great lengths to hide his origins, but his roots catch up with him and he has an existential crisis when a man turns up on his doorstep claiming to be his father. The director Urszula Antoniak explained that she too was an immigrant who had been living in Holland for twenty years. “I remember the first time my parents came to see me in Amsterdam. I felt odd, as if I belonged to a different cultural reality but without really forming part of it. Not only that but my father got lost, and this image of an old man in a city that isn’t his own, without knowing the language, gave me the model for shooting this film.”
