Jonás Trueba confessed that for quite some time he had had the feeling that he was going to end up making a film about adolescence, and this feeling gradually crystallised into La reconquista, which was screened yesterday in the Official Section. The filmmaker explained that when he works with actors, he realises that they are more interesting than their characters. This led him to prepare sequences directly without providing them with a definitive script. “I think it’s nice to make a film with scenes that make them face the challenge of not knowing how to play them.” Far from bothering them, his actors really appreciated this; the actress Aura Garrido praised Trueba’s working method, as often actors were only given a text, as if words
were the only way to make the action move along, when silences also formed part of communication.
