Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
At the press conference she gave yesterday morning after the screening of A Monster calls, Sigourney Weaver was full of praise for the fi lm’s director J.A. Bayona, the Festival and for Spain in general. She had vividly fond memories of her first visit to San Sebastián back in 1979 when she came here with Alien, and confessed that it always had a special place in her heart. She said that receiving a Donostia award was a great acknowledgement of her career, and that it meant a lot to her to get recognition in a country that took fi lms so seriously and which she had always loved working in. She acknowledged that she had been fortunate to work with many great directors but gave special mention to Peter Weir. She explained that he made her understand how to surrender to the chaos of cinema as she came from the world of theatre. She also said that it was vital to have a director like Weir with a strong vision who could make his vision come to pass. She disagreed with the idea that there were very few decent roles for older more experienced actresses, and pointed out that there may be more roles for men but they’re not necessarily better ones. She stressed that cinema now reflected the progress that women have made in the world: “Now I play roles that would have traditionally gone to men.”
