The Argentine director Anahi Berneri has already brought several of her films to San Sebastián in the past but this time around she is here as a member of the Official Jury. She acknowledges that she feels a lot more responsibility as a juror rather than when she’s presenting her own work as her decision might determine whether a film is successful or not, especially this year when there are so many debut films. However she also feels that just being selected for a festival like San Sebastián gives a significant boost to your film.
She is convinced that festivals are a way of democratising cinema that transcends the dictates of market forces as a festival can highlight films that do not have the marketing tools needed to reach a wider audience.
