Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Ethan Hawke received the first of this year’s Donostia awards in a ceremony held at the Kursaal last night. After being presented with the statuette by the director of the Festival José Luis Rebordinos, Hawke said that he was amazed to actually see the lineage that he now formed part of, and that it was a great honour that he would cherish all his life. He went on to say: “Cinema for me is the church of my choice and film festivals are holy institutions. Gathering here tonight what we are really doing is reaffirming our love and faith in the power of film. More and more I have come to see movies and art in general as manifestations of our collective consciousness and our communication with each other is absolutely essential to our collective health. What I love about cinema is it is restrained by no borders; it has the ability to reach each and every one.
When the light cuts to black in a cinema, we know we are not alone”. He concluded by saying that he would continue to devote his life to making creative art. “That’s all I’ve ever done, and all I’ll ever do”.
