Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Isaki Lacuesta’s film Murieron por encima de sus posibilidades/ Dying beyond their means tells the story of five guys driven to a life of crime by the economic crisis who are given life sentences in a mental hospital and then decide to escape and kidnap the President of the Bank of Spain, convinced that this will save the Spanish economy. Lacuesta claimed that he thought that there was no better setting to explain Spain than a mental hospital, and that he didn’t feel it was opportunistic for the film to restrict itself to focusing on certain highly topical events: “I think that Dying beyond their means will become even more relevant as time goes by; while we were shooting, descriptions of fraudulent scams appeared in newspapers that were much more outrageous and squalid than any line in a script that we could have written. In Spain we haven’t changed much throughout history and it’s highly doubtful that we are going to change the way we are overnight, so I that I’m not worried that the film will lose its relevance.”
